Owner’s Closet

It’s usually time for find a new organizing closet system when we find more clothes on the floor of our closet then the actually hangers and shelves. Our closet is your typical builder grade wire shelving, which is bare minimum for any kind of organization. We needed more ocompartments, hanging space, and simply just a space where we can find a sense of peace and tranquility.

THE DEMO

The existing conditions was made up of carpeted walk-in closet with wire shelving, your typical builder grade closet. Our design called for a hard surface floor, which we used LVP from Floor and Decor. We removed the shelves, ripped out the baseboards, and removed the carpet and padding. Subfloor are almost never even, so I had to make sure there weren’t any nail heads popping up before I installed the LVP.

SHELVING SYSTEM | IKEA PAX HACK

The closet system we used was the IKEA Pax. The original design of the shelving system is good and very versatile, but needed that extra trim to make it look more custom and built-in. Similar to our banquette design, we built a base out of 2x4s and then placed the PAX shelves on top of the base and mounted them onto the wall. The only exception is the center shelve when you walk-in. That is a custom shelf made from shelving boards I got from Home Depot. This shelf had to be custom size in order for the shelf to fit perfectly on-center.
